Our Legacy Statement

A review commissioned by the School Governors has confirmed that Sir John Moore was involved in the trade of enslaved people during the seventeenth century. This historical finding is difficult and troubling, and we recognise the pain and injustice associated with slavery.
Slavery, in any form and in any period of history, is wrong and wholly incompatible with the values we uphold today.

As a school, our responsibility is not to ignore or diminish the past, but to engage with it honestly and thoughtfully. We believe that education plays a vital role in helping pupils understand that history includes both achievement and injustice, and that the choices people make can have lasting consequences for individuals, communities and society.

Through our curriculum and wider school life, we aim to help pupils develop a strong moral compass, empathy for others and an understanding of fairness and justice. By learning from the past, we seek to equip our pupils with the values and beliefs needed to contribute positively to society and to help build a fairer, more compassionate future.
