🌟 The Governing Body 🌟

Sir John Moore CE Primary School

A message from the Chair of Governors

As Chair of Governors, I am proud to serve a school community that is committed to helping every child flourish.

Governors are volunteers drawn from different parts of the community, including parents, staff, the Church and the wider local area. We work alongside the Headteacher and school leaders to support the school’s vision, ensure high standards and act in the best interests of all pupils.

We recognise that, in the past, the governing body may have felt distant from parents and families. We are determined to change that. We want to be visible, approachable and engaged, and to play our part in strengthening the partnership between school, home and community.

Our role is strategic rather than operational. We do not run the school day to day, but we set the direction, provide challenge and support to school leaders, and ensure that the school is a safe, nurturing and ambitious place for every child.

We share a deep commitment to the vision of Sir John Moore CE Primary School — “Climbing to New Heights Together” — and to ensuring that this vision is lived out in ways that benefit every member of the school community.

What Governors Do

The governing body works to ensure the best possible outcomes for pupils by:

  • Setting the school’s vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school
  • Overseeing financial performance and ensuring resources are used effectively

Governors visit the school, attend meetings, review progress and undertake training so that we can carry out our responsibilities effectively and responsibly.

Our Key Priorities

🧩 Inclusion

We are committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, supported and able to succeed.

Governors work closely with school leaders to understand how the school identifies and supports pupils who may face barriers to learning or wellbeing, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, those eligible for pupil premium funding and those who may be vulnerable.

Our focus is on promoting equality of opportunity and ensuring that every pupil can flourish as part of our school community.

🛡️ Safeguarding

Nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our pupils.

Governors take our safeguarding responsibilities extremely seriously. We monitor safeguarding arrangements, policies and training to ensure that the school maintains a strong culture of vigilance and care.

We want parents to feel confident that Sir John Moore CE Primary School is a safe place where children are protected, supported and listened to.

❤️ Staff Wellbeing

We recognise that the wellbeing of staff directly affects the quality of education and care that pupils receive.

Governors support school leaders in creating a working environment where staff feel valued, supported and able to do their best work. We understand the pressures faced by those working in education and aim to ensure that expectations are balanced with appropriate support.

👥 Engagement with Parents and the Community

A strong partnership between school and families is essential for children’s success.

Governors are committed to improving communication and engagement with parents and carers. We want to listen, to understand your perspectives and to ensure that the school remains rooted in its community.

We also value our links with local organisations and the wider community, recognising that these relationships enrich the experiences of our pupils.

✝️ Our Christian Distinctiveness

As a Church of England Primary School, our Christian foundation shapes the life of the school.

Governors have a responsibility to safeguard and nurture this distinctiveness so that it remains meaningful and inclusive for all members of our community, regardless of background or belief.

We support the school in ensuring that Christian values are reflected not only in worship and teaching but also in relationships, decision-making and the way the school cares for every individual.

Our vision of “Climbing to New Heights Together” reflects the belief that every child is valued and encouraged to flourish. Through our partnership with the Church and Diocese, we aim to foster kindness, compassion, service and respect for others.

Serving Our Community

Governors are volunteers who give their time because we believe in the importance of education and in the potential of every child.

We are proud to serve Sir John Moore CE Primary School and are committed to working in partnership with parents, staff and pupils to ensure that the school continues to grow and thrive.
